This course is designed to give an overview of various communication systems and technologies that are used for Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) systems. The areas covered will include communication technology fundamentals, such as modulation techniques, RF signal characteristics, Spread Spectrum encoding.  The course will begin with basic fundamentals, explore key functional requirements, and examine how these technologies are used in communication networks. The instructor will offer an unbiased review of various vendor offerings in this space including hierarchical RF point-to-point and mesh systems and powerline communication systems.

Ron Chebra has an extensive background in communication systems and telemetry services, with a specialty in utility advanced metering infrastructures (AMI).  His career has been focused on both the technology applications and the business implication of assessing, designing, developing, deploying and operating advanced systems of these types for a variety of clients. Chebra is a member of the Utilimetrics board of directors and was awarded the 2006 AMRA Distinguished Service Award for his contributions to the industry and the association.
